Social Entrepreneurship

Scientific institutions:

The English term “social entrepreneurship” refers to a development that stems primarily from practical experience. Whether it’s the Grameen Bank and its microcredit business or the “Dialogue in the Dark” concept for the integration of blind people, it’s precisely through their innovative entrepreneurial practices that social entrepreneurs like Grameen founder and Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus or the founder of “Dialogue in the Dark,” Dr. Andreas Heinecke, capture the core idea of social entrepreneurship: the idea of sustainably solving social or ecological problems through innovative and entrepreneurial approaches.

Organizations that promote social entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurs:

  • Ashoka  – The world’s largest and first organization for supporting social entrepreneurs. Here you’ll find information on more than 2,500 social entrepreneurs.

Engagement at Leuphana

Leuphana is teeming with commitment. There are almost 100 initiatives that aim to connect, move, and change everyone! To showcase this, we’ve created a hidden object picture together with the fantastic illustrator Lou Syzmorek.

Although not all initiatives are featured here, the hidden object picture provides a good starting point for exploring the diversity of engagement and initiatives on campus. Where do you want to get involved?

Check-in questions-Try the SCHub Check-In of the Week in your meeting!

Why check-in?

Meetings can be awful. But they don’t have to be! The Social Change Hub (SCHub) has taken care of that.

Check-ins (5-10 minutes) help each person:

  • to arrive fully (physically and mentally) at the meeting and concentrate on the upcoming meeting (“Okay, now it’s time for the meeting!”)
  • to be invited to actively contribute something (“Oh, I have to say something too?”)
  • to be heard (“Wow, what I say is important!”)
  • feel psychologically safe (“Great, I’m not the only one who’s tired and needs a coffee?”)
  • reading the room (“How is everyone doing? How can we best support each other?”)

The check-ins offered by the SCHub are intended to support you, including in the further development of your:

  • entrepreneurial skills (e.g. “What do you want to learn today?”)
  • sustainable skills (e.g. “What is your preferred sustainable entrepreneurship?”)
  • emotional skills (e.g., “What are you most excited about at work lately?”)

Booklet on digital empathy

  • Do you also think that it is difficult to act empathetically in the digital space?
  • Do you need tools to lighten the mood in online meetings and want to strengthen the basis of trust?

Often, it’s the little things, like turning on your camera during a video conference, that can lay the foundation for digital empathy. This booklet offers you a small collection of exercises you can use to reflect on and develop your empathic skills in a group setting.

The exercises are sorted by scope and timing for everyday use. First, we present short exercises that work well at the beginning of a meeting. These are followed by intensive exercises that can take up the bulk of the meeting. Finally, we present feedback exercises that are well suited, for example, for closing a meeting.
